      fortification, XIII-XVI centuries.

      The oldest preserved building in Drohobych early medieval period. Powerful stone and wooden fortifications were built in the XIII century. During the Galicia-Volyn principality. In the XVI century. on the grounds of the castle was erected monumental church St. Bartholomew, and the tower was used as its bell tower. In the XIX century. all other fortifications dismantled, defensive ditches filled and over bell tower built on the third floor with arched windows. Front of the tower is a monument medieval scholar Yu Drohobych, who was the rector of the University of Bologna and teacher Copernicus.
